Note to self: stop trying to do other things while cookies (or cupcakes, for that matter) are baking in the oven.
I have a bad habit of thinking my food should take care of itself once it's been poured into a pot or dropped onto a baking sheet. I'm not sure why that is, but I wonder if the part of me that wishes someone else was around to do the cooking once in a while is leading me to behave in a less-than-fully-responsible manner when I do put some effort into food preparation. Then again, it might simply be because I just don't find spending time in the kitchen that interesting or rewarding. (Though I do like baking, so go figure!)
I wish I did like cooking, and chances are if I felt more confident in the kitchen I would like it. What...this means I should endeavor to practice? Ach! It's a vicious circle!
All to say I admire my friends who love cooking and approach it with love, abandon and the creative pursuit it truly can be. And I like that Jamie Oliver fellow - he's a pip!
